CPL Zheng Hui - Experience on Intermediate Survival Course

On the first day at the ferry terminal, I saw other cadets from various districts that I don't know. When we reached the place, we realise that the instructors are very nice and often tell us jokes.

The first programme was to introduce us to plants that can be eaten for survival. There are many different types of plants that can be eaten. After that, we had our lunch and we went straight to learn how to about fire making and killing a frog. We were separated into different groups and after that the instructors taught us how to set up a fire. We took a few attempts to make the fire last longer. Next was killing the frog in our pairs. Although some of us felt sad, for survival and learning we have to kill it fast and end it quick. I took out the skin and the intestines of the frog. We then cooked it.

Later it was about learning basic first aid. After that when it was at night, we were then separated in pairs to hike. We were sent to walk in the forest. We listened to the instructions on which road to take. It was quite fun because you have to listen very carefully to know where to go, especially when no torchlight was allowed and we had fun walking around to search for the checkpoints. After that we were not allow to bath only putting powder when we are going to sleep .

The next day we did morning physical training (PT) and soon after that we learnt how to make a shelter and trap & snare to catch animal. There were tests and practices and thus in order for the group to pass, we have to demonstrate great teamwork. In the end, we all passed and we were happy.

We changed from stranger to friends. I did not regret coming for this course because it was exciting and fun and making new friends and I hope that my juniors, the Secondary One would come because this course is only for sec 2, so if you miss it there will not be any more chances.  Do cherish this opportunity to have fun so I hope you will come.
